Messenger RNA became the focus of research in molecular medicine, as it is a non-toxic molecule that allows transient caprotein expression in virtually all cell types, including dendritic cells. The principles behind nucleic acid vaccines are rooted in Watson and Crick's central dogma - that DNA is transcribed into mRNA, which in turn is translated into protein.
