The Anarchist Nature of Henry David Thoreau

While Henry David Thoreau might have disagreed with the notion of being an anarchist himself, the views expressed in his writing are highly congruent with anarchist ideology. The first sentence of his essay "Civil Disobedience" already declares a desire for a government that "governs not at all". This book seeks to give a broad understanding of anarchist ideology and pairs these findings with the corresponding passages from Thoreau's oeuvre in order to ultimately arrive at the conclusion that the belief system conveyed in Thoreau's works is effortlessly adaptable to a modern interpretation of anarchism.
