The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was willing to carry out the task entrusted to him and the trust he carried, so he took himself with the greatest effort and hardship a man would take in God's essence, and he carried out God's command in himself in the duties assigned to him, just as he carried out God's command in everything he was entrusted with commanding. People started with it, and he started with his family and relatives, so he warned them and gave them good news, and some of them responded to him and some refused. Then he was ordered to spread his message, so he warned his people, gave them good tidings, and called them to faith, righteousness, and good deeds. Only a few of them responded to him, and most of them abstained from him. Then they were not content with abstaining, but they soon became annoyed with him and his call, and they began to respond to him gently sometimes, and to respond to him violently most of the time. Then they turned against him and began to harm him, himself and the people who followed him, with their hands and tongues. Then life between him and his people became a continuous and violent jihad, the most violent and intense. But he was patient for this jihad just as he was commanded to be patient, and he endured the kinds of hardship that befall strong-willed men as he was commanded to endure, and he made his companions patient and made easy for them what they were facing, and how many types of temptation and torment they were facing!
