Root of All Evil

Examining the sermons and writings of Protestant clergy, the author finds that clerics on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line (the dividing line between North and South before the Civil War) displayed unanimity in their condemnation of mammonism, which, they believed, would destroy the nation.
