Soil Resource Information System

In watershed and irrigation command area, major thrust is given for the optimum utilization of soil and water. Before we start any such activities, land evaluation is required to know the capability of soil for crop production, irrigation management, soil conservation practices and other alternative uses of land. This book provide information on basic understanding of how to evaluate land for development of the command area; assess the land capability and irrigability classification for providing long-term irrigation benefit for a designed gross command area; ensure optimum and effective utilisation of soil resources in a watershed; and determine soil suitability for various crops and formulate crop planning on different classified area.
