Stranded, he tries to explain his Dad-dud existence to his long-lost daughter by telephone. He is trying to explain it's about the smoke and mirrors of his life as reflected in mirror on the wall there, not just himself. At least he still has his joke about 'Mirror, mirror on the wall...'
