The Role of the Nurse in Primary Health Care

The violence perpetrated within the family against the elderly causes numerous damages to the family and to the individual, damages that are not restricted only to physical pain, as they cause great damage to the emotional health of the individual who becomes a victim of mistreatment. This situation of submitting to situations of violence generates feelings of inferiority, depression, loss of self-esteem and many times dependence on medication and/or other chemical substances. As population aging increases worldwide, the expressions of violence against the elderly become more evident. The nurse in strategic health planning or family health planning has an important role in identifying violence against the elderly, since primary health care serves as the gateway to the health service in Brazil. Objetivo: Compreender o papel do enfermeiro da Atenção Básica a Saúde na prevenção da violência ao idoso dentro do contexto familiar e o ambiente doméstico. Method: Qualitative, descriptive, integrative literature review.
