Podrobné informace

Bedouin is a play brimming with love and intrigue in the cloak of ancient Bedouin life. The story tells of a Bedouin girl who has a forbidden love with her cousin, while Al-Qudra weaves together intertwined destinies when the Fatimid Caliph Al-Amir with God''s decrees seduces her. This caliph, who is fond of Bedouin women, falls into the ropes of temptation from a slave girl who seeks to involve him in a deadly plot. Events accelerate and become complicated when the Caliph faces dangers for the sake of his love, which leads to his tragic end. The novel also presents the struggle over succession during the Fatimid rule, and depicts the contradictions of the Bedouin society in the father''s obedience to the caliph despite hatred and the Bedouin woman''s refusal to conspire against him despite her desire for revenge. The play was presented for the first time in 1918 at the Britannia Theater, performed by Abdel Rahman Rushdie''s troupe, and since its publication in 1922, it has become a source of inspiration and pride for Arab theatre.
