All students engaged in early vocational training are required to master basic literacy and numeracy at level 2. In the different countries of the U.K. these are know by different names. In England they are called functional skills, in Scotland and Northern Ireland they are known as core Skills, whilst in Wales they are Essential skills Wales. Within this broad subject banner there is an element called Application of Number. This is the subject of this book. The purpose is to help trainees to develop basic statistical skills. These skills are essential in the construction industry. The ability to engage in lean manufacturing is essential for all workers and this book gives students the basics for lean manufacturing. In the book they are faced with basic scenarios that involve using the Q.C.A.I. model and collecting and analysing the data. The students then have to interpret the data and that is the fundamental skill that is needed in lean management production and this is why this is so important.
