Nanofiltration in the Mitigation of Arsenic Pollution in Water

Arsenic contamination in drinking water poses a growing global health risk with large number of people knowingly or unknowingly getting exposed to it. Thousands of people have already been diagnosed with poisoning symptoms of arsenicosis and its other related diseases and many of them are still at risk not yet to be examined for the arsenic-related health problems. Millions of people in more than 70 countries are affected by arsenic pollution. Among appropriate techniques aimed at mitigating arsenic pollution in water, membrane filtration, owing to its higher efficiency, is highly acceptable. Also termed as green technology because of its low waste production and low energy consumption, it does not generate byproducts because there is no use of any chemicals in this process. Membrane filtration is generally used in a series for complete purification of water. This volume attempts to provide comprehensive information on all aspects of arsenic pollution and also discusses nanofiltration techniques to purify arsenic-contaminated water, which could ensure healthy living of masses in the arsenic-infested areas of the world.
