Detailed information

Rice is the main product in the world and it is the staple food of almost all countries in world. Rice is growing in more than hundred countries all over the world, while China and India produces world largest rice production. In SriLanka paddy is cultivating in both Yala and Maha seasons. Rice production is mostly expanded in dry zone of SriLanka, but it is productive in wet zone too. Paddy land abandonment is normally occurred in between Yala and Maha seasons. This is purposely done in order to make paddy lands more fertilizer. Other than seasonal fallowing, long term seasonal fallowing can be seen due to natural, socio - economic, technological and institutional matters and reasons should examine more deeply to re - cultivate paddy lands. Salinization of Benthara River impacts on paddy lands through water ways which distribute river water for rice cultivation
