Detailed information

Alexander Uspensky was born on August 11 (23), 1872. He graduated from the Lithuanian Theological Seminary, but soon after that he enlisted in the 108th Saratov Regiment as a volunteer. From there he was sent to the Vilenskaya Infantry School, after graduating from which he received the rank of sub-lieutenant. The First World War, Captain Ouspensky met commander of the company of the 106th Ufa regiment. In his glorious military way, a heroic defense of the bridge across the Alla River stands out as a bright episode, when a detachment under the command of Uspensky covered the retreat of the Russian army. For this fight, Alexander Uspensky received the rank of lieutenant-colonel, but when the order came out, he was already in captivity. In the first book On War, the author gives a detailed account of the difficult military work of Russian soldiers in the fields of the First World War. The second part, "In captivity", dedicated to the life of prisoners of war, is truly unique, since similar and so detailed evidence in the literature in Russian is no more.
