Detailed information

Book is helpful to research students and tells about Actinomycetes. Most Actinomycetes produce medically and industrially important compounds such as Streptomycin from Streptomyces griseous for the treatment of Tuberculosis, tarcolimus (FK 506) produced by Streptomyces spp. Nearly 11,900 antibiotics had been described by 1994 and estimated that more than 50% are produced by chemicals such as peroxidase from Streptomyces spp. (Kresk et al., 2000). It is believed that antibiotics interfere with the surface of bacterial cells, causing a change in their ability to reproduce (Leclercq and Courvalin 1991).
