Detailed information

From the beginning of the human civilization solid waste is generated, many factors have contributed in rise in generation of solid waste. Municipal solid waste consists of plastics, metals, glass, paper etc these materials can be recycled and reused. Rag pickers are the waste scavenging community they collect these waste materials and sell to the scrap dealers which helps in recycling. During the collection of the waste the rag pickers move to different area in the city and collect rag. The rag pickers do not use personal protective equipment during the work and they suffer from injuries and some health problems. The study was carried out in Chandrapur City, India to study the occupational health and socio-economic status of the rag pickers. The respondents were interviewed and the data was collected. The rag pickers are the informal workers and they do not get any special schemes form government for their work. In the study the problem faced by the rag pickers are studied the suggestion are given related to their jobs.
