Detailed information

Obesity is a worldwide epidemic with high prevalence in the population. In children and adolescents it has become increasingly common, suggesting an important health concern with a significant socioeconomic impact for society. Particularly, abdominal obesity has become a concern because it contributes to the alterations in metabolic profile and consequently the development of many comorbidities. The first chapter of this book reviews the effects of an interdisciplinary approach in treatment of abdominal obesity and the comorbidities in adolescents. Chapter two continues on to discuss cardiomyopathy that is associated with obesity. Finally, the last chapter examines clinical and experimental evidence that proves obesity in women may lead to insulin resistance associated with hormonal alterations mediating breast cancer risk.
