Detailed information

Facial appearance is an important factor and it affects social and psychological well-being, therefore orthognathic surgery has objective of correcting skeletal discrepancies, as well as altering facial balance; to achieve results in patient who have severe disharmony of jaws. The ideal positioning of the jaws through orthognathic surgery does not always result in an ideal soft tissue appearance; because the response of facial soft tissues does not reflect the exact movements of the underlying jaws. Soft tissue changes occur following orthognathic surgery which requires utmost attention during surgical correction to make prediction successful. Three-dimensional evaluation shows a significant difference in perioral soft tissues like nasolabial angle, mentolabial angle and lip width.
