Detailed information

This book is about a research work on garden pea (Pisum sativum L. sub sp. hortense Asch.). It summarizes the research entitled "Genetic evaluation for yield and its component traits (Pisum sativum L. sub sp. hortense Asch.). Garden pea is a major vegetable crop and therefore, the demand of green seed is increasing round the year but yield per hectare is less to fulfill requirement of the consumers. The genetic exploitation is necessary to get different high yielding varieties. Based upon this research it could be suggested that in crop improvement programme for garden pea major emphasis should be given on pod yield per plant followed by days to 50% flowering, number of seeds per pod, number of pods per plant, primary branches per plant and total soluble solid (TSS). Evaluation of different genotypes is the basic tool for the selection of best one for developing a new varieties. I hope, it will be helpful for the students and researchers in future for in research work of garden pea.
