Detailed information

The in vivo potential of plant leaf extracts to retard post harvest decay on tomato fruits after artificial inoculation contains detailed experiments with their results discussed in order to make biological principles understood. It focuses on the use of Moringa, Neem and bitter leaf extracts to extend the shelf life and preserve the postharvest quality such as lycopene content, betacarotene content, vitamin C content, Titratable acidity, pH, weight, Shelf life, Firmness and other physiological parameters of tomato fruits during storage. It discusses the mechanisms of how these plant leaf extracts are able to bring about the desired changes in the tomato fruits and the phytochemicals present in the leaf extracts are also identified. The challenge in the use of plant leaf extracts for industrial postharvest presrvation has been mentioned and recommendations for further research has been listed.
