Detailed information

The objectives of this investigation were to study genetic basis of seed yield and its component characters as well as to investigate the extent of heterosis and inbreeding depression, heritability and genetic advance for different characters in pigeonpea. Experiment was layed-out in Compact Family Block Design with three replications. Six generations, namely P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 of five crosses of pigeonpea viz., GJP 1 × BRG 14-1 (Cross 1), GJP 1 × BDN 2010-1 (Cross 2), NTL 740 × BRG 14-1 (Cross 3), TDRG 107 × BDN 2010-1 (Cross 4) and GJP 1310 × BSMR 853 (Cross 5) were grown under kharif season at Pulses Research Station, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh. The observations were recorded on five plants from P1, P2 and F1, twenty plants from F2 and ten plants from BC1 and BC2 generations in each replication for ten characters viz., days to flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, length of pod, 100-seeds weight and seed yield per plant.
