Detailed information

Forensic dentistry plays a major role in the identification of man-made or natural disaster events that result in multiple fatalities that may not be identifiable through conventional methods such as fingerprints. Dental characteristics were proved to be particularly important for the identification of carbonized victims in mass disasters. The unique characteristics of a person's teeth can make a positive identification of the human corpus. Restorations are as unique as fingerprints and their radiographic morphology, as well as the types of filling materials, are often the main feature for identification. Root canal filling materials for use as an aid in forensic identification such as endodontic sealers, gutta-percha, silver points, and separated files were distinguishable in the canal and traceable after incineration. The purpose of this book is to provide information about the role of Restorative dentistry and Endodontics in forensic identification which plays a small but significant role in this process.
