Detailed information

In Senegal, the fight against poverty is at the heart of the authorities' concerns and deserves special attention from everyone. Thus, this study proposes to analyze the determinants of poverty in Senegal. Methodologically, after an analysis of the socio-economic characteristics of households, a theoretical and empirical study of the determinants of poverty was conducted, which showed that a number of variables could explain poverty. Subsequently, an analysis of the determinants of poverty was carried out through logit modeling of poverty status. The battery of variables detected as likely to explain poverty was used in the modeling. From this work, it emerged that the determinants of poverty in Senegal are the level of education of the head of the household, the marital status of the head of the household, the size of the household, the age of the head of the household, the gender of the head of the household, and the transfers received from the head of the household, all of which increase the chances of the household being poor or not.
