Recently there has been a considerable increase in the number of tall buildings, both residential and commercial, and the modern trend is towards taller structures. Thus the effects of lateral loads like winds loads, earthquake forces are attaining increasing importance and almost every designer is faced with the problem of providing adequate strength and stability against lateral loads.
