Detailed information

This study provides a comprehensive understanding of water quality, sediment and core sediment characteristics in Paroppadi and Kattanchira wetland. A total number of 8 surface water samples were collected from these two wetlands and analyzed for physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters. The study on wetlands revealed that water quality of both Paroppadi and Kattanchira were degraded and are subjected various pollution and microbial contaminations. As suggestion to reduce wetland pollution, people must avoid disposal of household waste in the wetlands. Initiate proper monitoring programs to identify water pollution sources which discharged in to wetland waters directly or indirectly and provide awareness class to the native people on importance of wetland. Wetlands are also called earth's kidney. So it must be protected.
