Detailed information

Before the era of colonialism, Religion has been a key in the African traditional political system. The colonial masters introduced Christianity to Nigeria, while Islam had been embraced by several communities in the Northern region for decades. During the colonial system and thereafter, Christianity and Islam have played major roles in governance in Nigeria. It is on this note that this book critically investigates the roles or interrelationships between Faith-Based organizations and democratic governance in Nigeria from 1999-2019. Through this book, readers will also have access to the interplay between Western and Islamic educational systems and what caused the literacy disparities among the various regions in Nigeria. The book also investigates the roles and contributions of Christianity and Islam to Nigeria's nation-building, the roles of faith-based organizations under military rule, and the return to democratic rule. Moreover, the book has also traced the influence of Islam on governance in some Islamic countries and likewise the influence of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria's democratic governance before its recommendations.
