Detailed information

Diagnosing a disease could be time-consuming like in Nigeria where there is one doctor to about 60,000 people due to shortage of medical practitioners. Medical expert system can be used to address an aspect of this problem.Expert system, though encoding of human knowledge, do not attempt to stimulate human mental architecture. They are practical programs that use heuristic strategies developed by humans to solve specific classes of problems. The aim of this project is to develop an expert system for diagnosing and prescribing human reproductive disease. Knowledge about disease was obtained by consulting experts from the gynaecologist and urologist department, OAUTHC, Ile-Ife. The method of knowledge elicitation was conducting structured interview. The system was designed using Unified Modeling Language (UML) and flow diagram and then implemented using ESTA version 4.5.The system was tested and evaluated by experts in that domain (Gynaecology and Urology). The results showed that the system could diagnose and prescribe human reproductive disease given a number of symptoms. The system will be useful in assigning to verify diagnosis results and in tutoring medical students.
