Detailed information

The social significance of examining attitudes of host community residents towards gay tourism has been acknowledged. By identifying the views of host communities, policies can be implemented to minimise the disadvantages and increase the benefits of gay tourism for local residents. However, the literature on the links between local communities and gay tourism is still limited. Most of the studies on host community attitudes have explored the attitudes of local residents towards tourism as a whole and have seldom focused on attitudes towards a specific form of tourism and the behaviour of tourists. This book therefore aims to provide, through a particular case study, an understanding of host community attitudes towards gay tourists and their behaviour. In so doing, it critically reviews the literature on aspects such as residents attitudes towards tourism, gay tourism, and homosexuality. It also presents details of the case study including methodological considerations and research findings. The book will be of interest to researchers and students of tourism and sexuality.
