Detailed information

The research findings support the traditional use of the plant extracts for the treatment. The steroids are use in the different drug formulations and their prolonged use may result in the formation of various types of cancers. The dose of the steroids or anti- cancerous drugs may be supplemented with the leaf extract of the plants that will minimize the toxic effects of the steroids and anti-cancerous drugs. The treatment of apigenin and curcumin results in the reduction of the genotoxicity induced by the mitomycin C suggesting the possible role of apigenin and curcumin in protecting the normal cells from developing the secondary tumors. Apigenin also reduced the gentotoxic effects of hydrogen peroxide (the main product of oxidative stress) there by reducing the chances of the DNA damage. Allicin reduced the genotoxic effects of estradiol 17 thereby suggesting its use during the estradiol therapy in patients. Apigenin and leaf extract of Centella asiatica reduced the genotoxic effects of estrogens. The leaf extract of Eclipta alba, Spilanthes acmella and Plumbago zeylanica reduced the genotoxic effects of the steroids.
