Detailed information

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is an important tropical fruit, which is being grown in more than 100 countries of the world. It has been a major fruit owing to its particular climatic requirements, however its delicious taste, unique flavor with high nutritive value has made it equally popular across the globe and its demand and trade is expanding rapidly in other parts of the world especially in Europe and America. Apparently, there are two primary centers of origin of mango. It is believed to be originated in the Indo- Burma region and has evolved as a canopy layer species in the tropical rainforest of South and South East Asia. Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is an ancient but nonetheless most attractive tropical fruit. Mango belongs to the class dicotyledoneae, subclass archichlamydeae; order Sapindales and family Anacardiaceae. The family Anacardiaceae includes 60 genera and 400 species, most of them are in the tropics but a few of them are in the temperate zone in both eastern and western hemispheres. Since the establishment of this genus, a large number of species have been discovered and at present there are 41 valid species
