Myofibroblast are type of fibroblasts, which constitute a family of paracrine cells that play an important role in regulation of fundamental processes such as cell motility, proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, morphogenesis, tissue repair, inflammation and immune response. In many organs like liver, lung and kidney they are primarily involved in fibrosis. In wound tissue they are implicated in wound contraction by intracellular contraction and concomitant alignment of collagen fibers.
