Detailed information

The Farmers' Field School (FFS) approach aims at generating a deeper understanding of the important interactions of agro-ecosystems as well as on sustainable farming. It is an extension approach gaining prominence but its usefulness in influencing farmers to understand and uptake new technologies is still a question persistent in the mind of many FFS practitioners. This book assessed the knowledge and skill on agronomic principles and practices of rice cultivation acquired by the participating farmers from FFS session and evaluate the effectiveness of application of knowledge and skill in addressing the issues in productivity and food security of the farming households. It was evident that the skill and knowledge of the FFS farmers on rice production and the family level benefits after joining in the FFS have significantly changed. It was recommended that all stakeholders in agricultural development in Bangladesh be sensitized on the potential effectiveness of FFS methodology in scaling-up the agricultural technologies and also monitor how the application of knowledge acquired by FFS farmers is impacting on their livelihoods.
