Detailed information

Schools play a vital role in every society .They are not only places for student learning but also used for social meetings. In addition, school buildings play an important role in the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and floods. They can be used as shelters for the local population. Therefore the evaluation of seismic performance of existing school buildings has received a great deal of attention of researchers in recent years. The large amount of damages that occurred in school buildings during earthquakes throughout the world has enhanced this attention. The Sudan is not free from earthquakes, and has witnessed many earthquakes in modern history. This is in addition to previous studies in this area that have proved that. Most school buildings in The Sudan, are not designed and built to resist earthquakes .This is due the fact that building codes used in The Sudan do not consider earthquake loads. It is known that seismic performance evaluation process can be done in many ways. This book uses the equivalent static method provided in the Egyptian Society for Earthquake Engineering (ESEE-1988) Regulations.
