Detailed information

The purpose of designing organogel formulation of oxytetracycline HCl (OTH) is to overcome the limitation of OTH aqueous instability and degradation of drug in presence of aqueous media. The diffusion rate of drug can be increased by suitable vehicle and penetration enhancer. By applying factorial design result showed at low concentration of sorbiton monosterate and higher concentration of eucalyptus oil the percentage drug release and flux was higher while at higher concentration of sorbiton monosterate and at low concentration eucalyptus oil showed lowest drug release and flux. On comparing two different formulation containing different non aqueous base that is isopropyl myristate and olive oil with common penetration enhancer that is eucalyptus oil, formulation containing isopropyl myristate showed faster drug release and flux as compared to olive oil formulation. Therefore eucalyptus oil act as potent enhancer for both type of organogel but better enhancement is observed with isopropyl myristae thus suggesting synergistic enhancement action. Topically applied organogel were shown to significantly increase in cutaneous absorption of the drugs.
