Detailed information

Rapid population growth, industrialization, urbanization and technology trends have led to a sharp increase in solid waste generation. Despite this sharp increase in solid waste generation and accumulation, municipalities are still using the same conventional approach to solid waste management. This has led to solid waste becoming a sight of every scene. Residents dump uncollected waste in nearby areas leading to various disastrous problems to the society. In the conventional approach, a number of municipal vehicles collect solid waste and transfer it to landfills. However, the whole process is not properly monitored. It is very important to monitor solid waste collection and record the information pertaining to collection time, area and related data from a central location to ensure the job well done. A comprehensive electronic monitoring system which overcomes the above problems while enabling utilisation of solid waste as a resource is presented in this book.
