Detailed information

The British conquest of Ilorin in 1897 and its subsequent incursion into the domestic politics and administration of the cosmopolitan city brought forth series of changes in the relations and administration of the city itself and in that of its dependent communities in the 20th century. These changes brought about a twist in the power play between the Emir and his Baloguns. It also re-organized the fief system of administration in Ilorin. It further helped to consolidate British colonial authority in Ilorin. This book explores the relationship between Ilorin and Oke Oyi in the 20th century. it examines the inter group relation between the two groups and explains the critical role played by the British in consolidating Ilorin's hegemony on her dependent communities.
